What is “anchor text” and “internal links”- why do seo agencies use them?

What is “anchor text” and “internal links”- why do seo agencies use them?

Anchor text is the visible, clickable text within a hyperlink. It’s the portion of the link that you can see and then click, and your taken either to another internal page, or a completely different website.

So, for example, you might be on an estate agent’s website, then you click a link to “mortgage advisor” that they recommend, which might be a separate company, so the backlink takes you to the other website.

When constructing links, webmasters have a choice of which anchor text to use.

Anchor text is also a part of organic SEO since it allows search engines to identify what that page is about- for example, anchor text that reads “classic cars” is going to be about that, so anchor text which reads “click here” – well, that’s not very useful.

So if the anchor text reads, “mortgage advice ”, well, this gives a really good idea about what the website and business is offering. Yet the anchor text should be written in a white hat way. If a page has the anchor text “cheap shoes,” Google will infer that the page is about cheap shoes. So whether its cheap shoes, or something else you sell, you must make sure the anchor text is written so that it follows white hat seo methods. This goes for all of the seo that you do, it should always be white hat

So in summary, always make an effort to utilise descriptive anchor text, yet make sure it’s written in a white hat way.

What is an “internal” link?

An “internal” link is simply hyperlink which points to another page or resource on the same website or domain, so for example, if you are a construction company here in Wales, you might have internal links to “attic conversions”, “house extensions”, and building “new houses” which are the different pages on the same company website.

Internal links are used to help visitors navigate a website and find the information they are looking for. They can also be used to help search engines index a website by providing links between pages.

If you have a website with multiple pages, you can use internal links to help visitors move from one page to another, or to different blog posts you’ve written.

So for example, if you have a page about cat food, you could create a link to a page about dog food.

This would be an “internal” link because it is linking to another page on the same website, although you sell pet food, your linking to the different types of items food that you sell, which if done right, that’s in a white hat way, it could help improve your organic seo.

Internal links are usually created using anchor tags. An anchor tag is a piece of HTML code that contains the URL of the page that you want to link to. For example, the anchor tag for a demolition company might look like this:

<a href=”http://example.com/abc”>demolition</a>

The href attribute contains the URL of the page you want to link to. In this case, the URL is http://example.com/abc. The text between the opening and closing anchor tags (demolition) is what will be displayed on the page as the link.

When creating internal links, it is important to use descriptive keywords within the anchor text, yet in a white hat way.

This will help visitors understand what the page is about, and it will also help search engines to index your website.

What are backlinks?

A backlink could be from an external website that links to your site, or it could be an internal link from one page on your site to another. Backlinks are important for search engine optimization (SEO) because they help search engines determine the quality and relevancy of a website or web page.

The more high-quality (white hat) backlinks a website or web page has, the more likely it is to rank higher in search engine results pages (SERPs). Backlinks are one of many ranking factors that search engines use to rank websites and web pages. Other factors include on-page optimisation, content marketing, user experience, such as your companies bounce rate, and more.
